Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

STEM refers to the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics collectively. The purpose of implementing STEM education in our school is to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to meet the changes and challenges in the society with the rapid development of scientific and technological developments, as well as to foster innovation and entrepreneurial spirit as required in the 21st century.

 

After the completion of the curriculum, students are expected to integrate and apply their knowledge and skills across different subject disciplines through daily life problems with practical solutions and innovation designs; to broaden by engaging in different related learning opportunities, including local, national, and/or international competitions/ events related to STEM education; to further enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching of students and teachers within and across KLAs and facilitate the lifelong learning and whole-person development; and to communicate and cooperate with local and non-local professional organizations, tertiary institutions, government and non-government organizations to foster synergy within the community for facilitating student learning.

Learning Activities

Laser cutter:

Students learn how to design the product using Adobe AI and use laser cutter to cut the product out. They are going to further process it by using the engineering skills learnt in the STEM lessons to create a memo pad holder which are used within our school. Students are required to apply the knowledge and skills from different learning areas, such as Mathematics, Computer and Engineering part in the STEM lesson.

Lego EV3 Prgramming:

Students learn how to use Lego EV3 and sensors to create different robots for daily use and competition. Sumo robots were created to remove obstacle based on the program set and sensors installed in the robot; a delivering thread to deliver the marble based on the program set to control the motors. The machine was a part of the exhibition in the marble run exhibition in the Learning and Teaching Expo 2019.
